Shadow Play: Tales of Urbanization of China

Lily & Honglei

Shadow Play: Tales of Urbanization of China is a multimedia installation that utilizes animation and emerging technologies to visualize the metamorphosis created by urbanization in China. With an outlook to the future through digital technologies, a retrospective into the past through the time-honored imagery of the traditional Chinese shadow play, and a reflection of the present through immersive fieldwork in modern China, the artists seek to present the unfolding of a monumental shift from agrarian to urban in Chinese society. The installation will include multi-channel video projections of animations, projections of a real-time virtual reality interface (Second Life), and an augmented reality installation that can be viewed with a smartphone or tablet in an exhibition space.
