Agency of Time

Leighton Pierce

Agency of Time consists of three separate but related projects that engage issues of time, space, and memory. The installation consists of multiple video and audio loops presented either on architectural or natural surfaces in ambient public spaces or on constructed projection objects in a gallery setting. The content of these loops and the design of their presentation will focus on an awareness of perception, point of view, time, desire, and memory. A single channel video subsequently incorporates visual and acoustic elements from the installation and translates them into a piece that expects a single point of view and a fixed beginning and end. A book of photographs then incorporates imagery from the installation and the single channel piece. In this, there is an even more collapsed sense of space especially since there is no audio component. Sequencing of images are determined by the layout and by the turning of pages.
