TBA:09 Festival Portland Center for the Performing Arts September 4–7, 2009 6:30 pm (9/4-9/6), 8:30 pm (9/7) Portland, OR Dance Theater Workshop September 15–19, 2009 7:30 pm NYC Miguel Gutierrez and the Powerful People will debut their Creative Capital project _Last Meadow_ at the TBA:09 Festival at the Portland Center for the Performing Arts this Friday, followed by the New York premiere at Dance Theater Workshop on September 15. Gutierrez is a 2009 Performing Arts grantee, whose work _The New York Times_ calls an “adrenaline burst, smart and moving and full of questions, the only way real art can be.” _Last Meadow_ is an evening-length, three-part piece for three performers that mines movements and texts from James Dean’s three films to create a non-narrative patchwork that describes an America where the jig is up and the dream has died. In agriculture, the “last meadow” is the one that receives the least amount of water from irrigation. In neurology, “last meadow” describes a kind of stroke in which the brain doesn’t receive enough blood thereby causing damage. _Last Meadow_ is about the space of waiting, where what you need never comes. Performance artist Neal Medlyn created music for _Last Meadow_ and visual artist Paul Chan served as dramaturg. Visit _Last Meadow_ Back to Listing
