This week, Mario Ybarra, Jr. (2008 Visual Arts) premieres his Creative Capital-supported project Curry Corndog Stand in the exhibition Around the Table: food, creativity, community at the San Jose Museum of Art. Along with Ybarra’s project, this multistage exhibition exploring the role that food plays in our lives includes work by six other Creative Capital awardees: Fallen Fruit, Futurefarmers, Robert Karimi, Matthew Moore, Sergio de la Torre and Sam Van Aken.

Ybarra is developing, producing and selling curry corndogs at a homemade stand to engage viewers around issues of food, identity, marketing and history. The project also seeks to explore the potential of the mobile food cart as a means to sole proprietorships for the unemployed. Ybarra will serve corndogs in front of the museum as part of a series of performances at the opening reception on November 9.
