Rodney Evans (2008 Film/Video) celebrates the theatrical release of his Creative Capital-supported project, The Happy Sad, opening in New York and Los Angeles on August 16. The film follows two young New York couples—Marcus (Leroy McClain) and Aaron (Charlie Barnett), Stan (Cameron Scoggins) and Annie (Sorel Carradine)—whose lives become intertwined as they create new relationship norms, explore sexual identity and redefine monogamy. An official selection of Frameline37 and Outfest, The Happy Sad juxtaposes the storylines of these central characters to highlight the ethical dilemmas facing men and women who are trying to create ways to be in a loving relationship, while recognizing that monogamy might not be for them.

The Happy Sad is based on a play by Ken Urban and prominently features original songs written by Urban and actor/musician Cameron Scoggins along with his band, The Whiskey Collection. Scoggins and members of The Whiskey Collection will perform after a screening co-hosted by Creative Capital at IFC Center at 2:20pm on Saturday, August 17. Evans and members of the cast will be in attendance for Q&A.

Read an interview with Evans about his process in adapting this story and bringing it to the big screen on Creative Capital's blog, The Lab.
