Professional Development

Taller professional para artistas (taller)

Creative Capital’s Taller professional para artistas (taller) is a free four-month career development program for Spanish-speaking Latinx artists in New York City. The program introduces artists of all disciplines to strategic planning, financial, fundraising, and promotion skills and tools, building the capacity of each artist to reach their creative goals, strengthen their communities, and build thriving careers. It will also address the challenges faced by Latinx artists working in multiple cultural and linguistic contexts in New York City, while fostering a supportive peer community of artists advocating for themselves and each other.

Workshops

We quickly found that the professional development resources originally created for our awardees were being shared with other artists. This spirit of community-building and resource-sharing inspired us to create a full suite of programs accessible to artists everywhere through three different venues: Online Workshops, Local Workshops, and Partner Workshops. Since 2003, our workshops have reached more than 18,000 artists across the country. Artists have credited Creative Capital with helping them build a more stable financial foundation, develop better time-management skills, and transition to a full-time practice.

Our workshops are developed specifically for artists to provide career, community, and confidence building tools to support all aspects of a creative practice, including business management. Our program leaders are not only experts in what they teach, most are practicing artists and many are Creative Capital Awardees. Leaders introduce concepts and practical skills grounded in real life examples. This model has encouraged collaboration and contributed to vibrant and diverse arts communities nationwide. We present workshops that are intentionally small to encourage participants to get to know each other and form lasting connections. Our commitment to rigorous self-evaluation ensures that our curriculum encompasses the newest and most relevant ideas and information to help artists thrive in an increasingly complex world.

Online Workshops

Designed for artists of all disciplines and at all career stages, our online workshops are taught by artists and arts professionals who share practical tips and tools, case studies, and personal examples from their own experience. Online workshops are 90 minutes, including lecture and Q&A sessions, and are offered on Mondays and Thursdays from 7 to 8:30pm EST. Online workshops are recorded and shared with all registered participants after the online workshop regardless of whether participants attend the live program. Each online workshop costs only $25.

In-Person Workshops

Held in Creative Capital's downtown office space, our in-person workshops sustain New York's creative community by giving artists the management strategies they need to achieve their professional goals, ensuring the livelihood and longevity of their careers.

Our workshops set the stage for participants to engage in peer learning and resource sharing with each other and in the local community long after the program ends. Workshops are presented through engaging lectures, small-group sessions, one-on-one consultations with workshop leaders, and peer critiques. The programs address topics related to strategic planning, fundraising, budgeting, time management, communications, website development, and promotion, and to help artists expand their skills and advance their careers. All workshops are designed and led by artists for artists.

Partner Workshops

We work with state and local arts organizations, foundations, artist collectives, not-for-profits, fellowship programs, art schools, colleges, and universities nationwide to provide customized professional development opportunities to artists. If your organization serves professional artists who are interested in advancing their careers, we will work with you and your staff to select and present a workshop that will best suit the needs of your artists. Current partners include Chicken & Egg Pictures, the North Carolina Arts Council, the Pew Center for Arts and Heritage, and the Rasmuson Foundation, among many others.
