Michael Almereyda

Michael Almereyda directed his first short film in 1985, an adaptation of Lermontov’s A Hero of Our Time featuring Dennis Hopper. He has written and directed over 20 films ranging from fiction to documentaries. Almereyda has considerable experience with literary adaptations, with source material ranging from D.H. Lawrence to F. Scott Fitzgerald, Shakespeare to the contemporary American writer Mary Robison. His best-known movie is a 2000 adaptation of Hamlet starring Ethan Hawke. In 2014, Almereyda’s adaptation of Cymbeline screened at the Venice Film Festival. His latest feature, Experimenter: the Stanley Milgram Story, will premiere at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
