Valerie Tevere

Emerging Fields, 2009

Valerie Tevere is a multidisciplinary artist and academic who has been working collaboratively with Angel Nevarez since 2001.Their projects and research investigate contemporary music and sound, the electromagnetic spectrum, dissent and public fora. Nevarez and Tevere’s interests lie in the formation of itinerant, performative and discursive-based social spaces with works that move between the spatial simultaneity of performance and enunciation, reflecting upon political agency through lyrics, audio and transmission. Tevere received a BA in Political Science from the University of California San Diego, an MFA in Photography from California Institute of the Arts and she was a Studio Fellow at The Whitney Museum’s Independent Study Program. She was recently a Mellon Resident Fellow at the Center for the Humanities at The Graduate Center at CUNY and is Professor of Media Culture at College of Staten Island, CUNY.
