Artist Julia Christensen discusses Burnouts, her piece currently on view at 21c Louisville. She will discuss the piece within the context of her larger body of work, Project Project.  This work investigates our cultural relationships with electronic waste, often called “e-waste.” This ongoing body of work includes BurnoutsHard Copy (a photographic look at how we store and hoard recordable media such as VHS Tapes and CD’s), The Big Feed (a video installation featuring a self-made video projector that questions the storage of images in our digital age), and The Chuck Close Tapes (a video piece about an auspicious collection of old videotapes).  Christensen will also present documentation from her recent trip to India, where she explored the informal e-waste recycling market in Delhi, providing a broad view of how electronic trash is stored, thrown away, and processed around the world.
