Urban Infrastructure for Non-Humans: Toward the BRONX OOZ

Natalie Jeremijenko

In partnership with the Bronx River Art Center, Bronx OOZ is a new art/ecology institution that will present interactive public art works in the Bronx and beyond. Part reinvented zoo, part wild animal safari and part urban adventure game, this curatorial framework re-presents and facilitates urban biodiversity in situ. Like a traditional zoo, it is a series of sites where animals and humans interact, but Bronx OOZ seeks to offer a counter-example to the traditional zoo model of caged animals and prescribed viewing experiences. Each component of the project provides humans a set of actions; the animals provide reactions and these couplets add to a collective pool of observations.
