Path of Bees
Chel White
Path of Bees, Chel White’s first feature film, focuses on the story of Emery, a young man who returns to his hometown after having run away as a teenager some years before. He returns to care for his stepfather, who has fallen into a coma after suffering a stroke. Emery also must deal with the fact that he may become his retarded half-brother’s sole guardian. Finally, Emery is forced to confront memories and inner demons that have haunted him, as he spends time in the childhood home where his mother took her own life. He is joined in his journey by Isabel, a young woman who becomes his soul mate. Throughout the film, bees carry a heavy symbolic weight drawn from German Mythology, in which “the path of bees” referred to the air as “filled with the souls of the dead.”
