2001 Visual Arts grantee Elena del Rivero's Creative Capital-supported project, [Swi:t] Home: A CHANT, opens September 7 in the lobby gallery at the New Museum in New York. In commemoration of the tenth anniversary of 9/11, the museum will offer free admission to visitors on Sunday, September 11. On Thursday, September 15 at 7:00pm, Del Rivero will have an artist talk in conversation with fellow New York-based artist Andrea Blum.

After her lower Manhattan studio was heavily damaged by the fall of the World Trade Center towers on September 11, 2001, Del Rivero started collecting and cataloging office documents that landed in her studio after the towers fell. She carefully salvaged and cleaned these documents, memos and notes, removing personal information and hand-sewing them onto rolls of fabric. The piece will hang from the gallery's ceiling in a cascading form that evokes the papers falling and drifting in through Del Rivero's damaged studio windows. [Swi:t] Home: A CHANT is an extension of a larger project begun before the 9/11 attacks that combines papermaking, performance, fiber art and sound.

In addition to the show at the New Museum, a video collaboration by Del Rivero and fellow Creative Capital grantee Leslie McCleave is included in the exhibition Remembering 9/11 at the International Center of Photography, opening on September 9.
