LMAKprojects is pleased to present the premiere of Armstead’s Creative Capital-supported project with Spook™: INVOCATION. Kenseth’s Spook™ project is based on the true story of James Armistead Lafayette, a double-agent and slave who spied for and against George Washington. After extensive historical research, Armstead re-tells the story of Lafayette through the contemporary portal of the graphic novel format. The exhibition is comprised of thirty hand-drawn images depicting three months in the spying life of Lafayette—from his first mission for George Washington to his dangerous compact with the most feared British General, Lord Charles Cornwallis. Lafayette, a lost hero, is drawn in context, for the first time, as a fully realized character.
