BILL MORRISON'S DECASIA RECEIVES ITS U.S. LIVE PREMIERE AT ARTS AT ST. ANNE'S IN NEW YORK. Following the sold-out live debut of the work in Basel, Switzerland, where Michael Gordon’s score was performed by the 55-piece Basel Sinfonietta—and highly acclaimed screenings of the film at the Sundance Film Festival and on the Sundance and Independent Film Channels—Decasia will be presented live for the first time in the U.S. at St. Ann’s Warehouse, in five performances from September 9 to 12. CREATIVE CAPITAL CELEBRATES FIVE YEARS! After five years, the Creative Capital Foundation has plenty of reason to celebrate: its recent call for submissions turned out almost double the number the organization received in its first grant cycle, and the 158 projects funded to date have achieved numerous successes, including an Oscar nomination, an off-Broadway hit play, and representation in the 2004 Whitney Biennial. THE APPLICATION PHASE FOR CREATIVE CAPITAL GRANTS 2004 IN FILM/VIDEO AND VISUAL ARTS has begun. Creative Capital received more than 3,000 Inquiry Forms in the first phase of the submission process. Seven hundred inquirers have been invited to submit full applications, which are due on July 7.

CREATIVE CAPITAL GRANTEES are busy as ever, with exhibits and performances scheduled throughout the country this summer. A CREATIVE CAPITAL CHANNEL EXCLUSIVE: For the 2003-2004 academic year, the Department of Art at Austin Peay State University in Tennessee invited several Creative Capital artists to lecture and present a Professional Development workshop. NEW IN THE ARTIST'S TOOLBOX: Creative Capital's Artist Toolbox is now a fully-fledged website at http://toolbox.creative-capital.org. An annotated collection of career-resource sites, the Toolbox is full of new additions, including a section devoted to literature and poetry, with links to The Academy of American Poets, The Council of Literary Magazines and Presses, and Poets & Writers, Inc. CREATIVE CAPITAL PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT WORKSHOPS are weekend retreats that help artists to organize, plan, and sustain creative careers. These workshops use an integrated approach to cover the topics of marketing/public relations and fundraising with an emphasis on strategic planning for individual artists. In other news . . .

Natalie Bookchin has been named a Media Arts Fellow by the Rockefeller Foundation. She will apply the grant towards her Creative Capital funded project agoraXchange, a collaboration with Jacqueline Stevens.

Erica Cho has been named a Visual Art Residency Fellow by the Fine Arts Work Center in Provincetown, Massachusetts. She will be in residence there from October 1 to May 1, 2005.

Fred Holland has been awarded a 2004 Pollock-Krasner Foundation grant.

Dan Hurlin has been awarded a 2004 CalArts Alpert Award in the Arts.

Rachel Mayeri's Creative Capital-funded video Stories from the Genome has been nominated for the International Media Art Award 2004. The 50 nominated videos will be broadcast in October in Germany and Switzerland on ARTE.

Beverly McIver has been awarded a 2004 Louis Comfort Tiffany Award.

Jennifer Monson, William Pope.L, and Pamela Z have been awarded Guggenheim Fellowships for 2004.

Jon Moritsugu's Creative Capital-funded film SCUMROCK received a 2003 Village Voice Film Critics Award for Best Feature at the 2003 New York Underground Film Festival.

Carrie Moyer has been awarded a Special Editions Fellowship at the Lower East Side Printshop in New York.

Marie Sester is a recipient of a 2004 Webby Award in Net Art for her Creative Capital funded project Access. She will also be an artist in residence at ZKM Center for Art and Media in Karlsruhe, Germany in Summer 2004.

Paul Shambroom has received a Penny McCall Foundation Award, one of seven awards given annually by nomination to artists, arts writers, and curators.

Eddo Stern's collaborative group c-level has been awarded a Rhizome 2004 Net Art Commission for the endgames project.

Basil Twist has received the Rome Prize from the American Academy in Rome. He will be in residence at the academy for one year beginning September 2004.

Chel White's new short film Magda won the Grand Jury Prize for Best Animated Short at the 2004 Florida Film Festival.
