Suzan Pitt

Suzan Pitt’s paintings and animated films have won numerous prizes worldwide. Her film Asparagus won first prize at the Oberhausen Short Film Festival along with the International Critics Prize. Her film Joy Street premiered at the New York Film Festival, was in competition at Sundance, and was awarded Best Short Film at the Naples Film Festival and the Golden Gate Award at the San Francisco International Film Festival.

She has had major exhibitions at the Whitney Museum of Art, the Holly Solomon Gallery in New York, and the Stedlijk Museum in Amsterdam. Pitt has created two multimedia shows at the Venice Biennale and Harvard University. Pitt is the recipient of a Guggenheim Fellowship, a Fulbright Scholar Award, three NEA Fellowships, and a Rockefeller Fellowship. Her work is in the permanent collection of the Walker Art Center, The Museum of Modern Art, and the Filmmuseum in Amsterdam. Her films have been broadcast on PBS, The Sundance Channel, Showtime, Channel Four in England, and PayTV in Germany.

2009: Retrospective screening of works by Pitt at the Flanders International Film Festival, Ghent, Belgium

2008: New DVD collection of four of Pitt's films and the documentary _Persistence of Vision_ is released by The Image Forum in Japan

2006: First Run Features releases a compilation DVD of Pitt’s animations

2006: The Museum of Modern Art in New York hosts a retrospective screening of Pitt’s animations, including _El Doctor_

2003: Pitt receives an Independent Television Service Grant

2002: Pitt receives a Latino Public Broadcasting Grant

2001: Pitt receives a California Arts Council Media Fellowship
