Ellipses is an interdisciplinary art project by Creative Capital artist Melanie Crean that addresses the unwritten histories of women who have challenged social norms and advocated for change in the industrial valleys of Connecticut. Central themes include the idea of remediation in historical narrative, toxic spaces in the built environment, and the body.  Process was focused on reclaiming marginalized, “Other” spaces through performance, reframing them as sites of action and speech, to deconstruct their power. The project consists of a publication, sculpture, portraits of contemporary activists, and a series of site specific videos which subvert the fashion, architecture and structures of control that have historically constrained women.
