2014 sees the 75th anniversary of John Steinbeck’s “Grapes of Wrath”. In celebration of that milestone in American Literature, The Todd Madigan Gallery is pleased to present Jim Skuldt‘s exhibition Water & Power. Skuldt’s work considers the management of and misinformation surrounding water use in the Central Valley and American desert over the past century. It investigates the control and access to fundamental resources to shape constructions from corporateindustrial agriculture to the American desire for green lawns.
 
Coinciding with Governor Brown’s long overdue declaration of a drought in California, Skuldt sets to surveying a sprawling arid region, instituting the “Mojave Meta Surf Club” as a framework from which to consider the state of water (and former water) sites from Las Vegas to Bakersfield (once a fertile marshland), to the thirsty city below.
