| PRESS RELEASE: FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE EXHIBITION AT THE FELDMAN GALLERY TO FEATURE
WORK BY CREATIVE CAPITAL ARTISTS NEW YORK, NY (February 18, 2003) – Ameri©an Dre@m: A Survey, an exhibition of contemporary art, features work by more than thirty artists currently funded by Creative Capital Foundation, the New York–based nonprofit arts organization. On view from February 22–March 29 at the Feldman Gallery and 419 Broome Street in New York, this survey will include a total of more than 60 artists working in painting, sculpture, installation, photography, film, video, and the Internet. With different perspectives identified by class, race, education, gender, sexuality, luck, high/low culture, voluntary/involuntary immigration, politics, and more, the exhibition explores what the notion of the “American Dream” purports to be and what it really is. Gallerist Ronald Feldman said, “After watching the artist presentations at last summer’s Creative Capital Foundation retreat, it became obvious that despite the wide variety of disciplines, media, and approaches, many of the projects shared a common engagement with the subject of America or American culture. The projects included everything from scathing critiques of society, to affectionate tributes to friends or relatives, to honoring the beauty of the landscape. That confluence of creative practices and the subject of America was the beginning of my thinking about this show—Ameri©an Dre@m. The art evokes a quality of Americanness, if there is such a word.
